The questions that come up most
The first launch asks for the internet, then never again
Nocturne carries its whole card catalog inside the app, and that catalog is encrypted. The very first launch needs a connection for a few seconds to unlock it. After that the scanner, the catalog, grading, your collections and your portfolio all work with no network at all.
A card will not scan
Recognition runs on your device against the catalog the app ships with, so the three things that fix almost every miss are light, focus and the right game. Put the card on a flat, evenly lit surface, fill the frame with it, and check that the right game is selected at the top of the scanner. If the card is a promo, a misprint or something no database lists, use Teach Mode: show it to Nocturne once and it is recognized from then on. You can also import a photo from your library instead of using the camera.
A card shows no price
Prices come from a market-data snapshot that ships with the app and refreshes with app updates. A set released in the last few weeks usually has no market price yet, because the price sources publish those later, so those cards read “No price on record” for a while. Every card page links out to eBay sold listings if you want today's number in the meantime.
My collection total changed
Values follow the market snapshot in the version you are running, so totals move when the app updates. Version 1.1 also corrected how a card with several printings is valued: it now uses the printing you actually own rather than the most expensive one, which lowered a lot of totals. That was the correction, not a loss.
Grading
The condition grade is an estimate produced from your photos, scored on centering, corners, edges and surface. It is there to tell you what you are holding before you pay for professional grading. It is not a substitute for an official grading service and it is not affiliated with one.
Subscriptions, restoring and cancelling
Scanning, grading, collections and the portfolio are all free to try. Nocturne Premium removes the scan and grading limits. Every price is shown in your own currency on the purchase screen before you buy. If you reinstall or change device, open Profile and tap Restore Purchases. To cancel, open the iPhone Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
Backups and moving to a new phone
Backup is opt-in and goes to your own private iCloud, which we cannot read. Turn it on in Settings before you switch devices, and your collections, your purchase prices, your grades and your taught cards come across. You can also export the whole collection to CSV at any time.
Deleting your data
Everything Nocturne stores is on your device. Deleting the app deletes it. If you turned on iCloud backup, turn it off in Settings first, or remove the app's data from iCloud in the iPhone Settings app.
