Privacy Policy
Pitot collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no third party SDK and no server of ours. The App Store privacy label reads Data Not Collected because that is literally true.
What the app does reach
Pitot is a weather instrument, so it does make requests, and it is worth being exact about which:
- Apple Weather, for the hourly forecast at the place you are looking at. The request carries that place's coordinate and nothing about you. Apple's own privacy terms cover it, and the app shows the Apple Weather mark and the data sources link on every weather surface.
- NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center, for the public planetary K index. That request carries no location at all: the K index is planetary.
Nothing else leaves the device. Sunrise, sunset and civil twilight are computed on the device, which is also why they keep working with no signal.
What stays on your device
- Your places. The name and an approximate coordinate for each place you search for or save.
- Your aircraft. The limits you set for wind, gust, visibility, cloud, rain, temperature and the K index, and whether you fly at night.
- Your checklist and your flight log, including any notes you write in them.
- The last reading, so the strip still draws with no signal, with its age shown on screen.
Location
Location is optional and the whole app works with it refused: the first screen is a search field, and every feature works from a place you search for. If you do turn it on, Pitot asks for When In Use only, never Always, and asks for approximate accuracy rather than precise. It never uses continuous GPS and declares no background location mode. The coordinate is used to fetch weather for where you are and is not written to any log. You can turn it off at any time in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Purchases are handled entirely by Apple. Pitot never sees your payment details. The app stores only whether a purchase is active, on your device.
Children
Pitot is not directed to children and collects no data from anyone.
Deleting your data
Delete the app and everything it holds goes with it. There is no copy anywhere else, because there was never a copy anywhere else.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the previous version stays in this page's history on GitHub.
