Methodology
Dalil means proof. Every entry has to show where its answer came from, and an entry that cannot is shipped as unclassified rather than guessed.
The citation rule
Every classified entry cites a source that was fetched and read while the entry was written, and the app renders every one of them as a link you can open. An entry that could not be cited that way ships with its identity fact and no verdict, and shows in the app as identified, not yet classified. Where public rulings genuinely conflict, the entry is doubtful and carries both citations with the name of who holds each position. No verdict is ever forced.
Two kinds of answer, and we say which
An entry reaches its status one of two ways, and the app labels them differently because they are not the same kind of claim.
- What rulings say. A named public ruling or halal guide was read and is cited. Every restrictive status in the dictionary is of this kind: saying that something is forbidden or doubtful is a religious claim and it names who made it.
- How Dalil classifies it. No ruling was needed because the answer follows from what the ingredient is: a synthetic colour, a mineral salt, a plant extract. These entries carry only the most permissive status, and the source shown is the identity source, because that is the only source there is. They are never labelled as rulings.
Where rulings differ
Some questions have more than one honest answer, and the schools and the certifiers do not agree. Dalil lists those as topics in the Rulings tab with both positions side by side, each attributed and linked. You choose which position applies to you, per topic, and the app tells you on every verdict which of your settings decided it. Dalil does not adjudicate between them and does not ask you to pick a school, because certifiers within one school also differ.
What the app will not say
- It never says a product is halal, and it never says certified.
- A clear reading says that no flagged ingredient was found on that label and that certification is not verified. Those are the exact words.
- No status is drawn in green, and no icon in the app is a seal, a stamp or a tick. A seal is the symbol of certification, which is the one claim this app refuses.
Review
Every classification entry is reviewed by a qualified human before a build ships. An entry that fails review is corrected or demoted to unclassified. It is never argued past.
